Concept Atelier Archmixing, YeAS and CEED co-organized the "Hongkou 1617" exhibition, which was about the results of urban space survey conducted by three teams during the period 2016-2017along the Line 3 in Hongkou District and the surrounding of Hongkou football stadium. The results were named "Reverse Reduction," "Frankenstein," and "LINE3." "Hongkou 1617" is the second phase of the series of research. They are not the kind of comprehensive and profound achievements. They are all short and concentrated, but with their own vision. They are related to the three teams' respective practices and topics. For the reason why these results were put together to display, in addition to the above-mentioned, on the one hand, naturally, they all occur in the same urban area which is rich and mixed in state, so it is possible to use them as samples for collecting information about ordinary cities and buildings. On the other hand, choosing different types of objects, selecting different teams, and jointly researching and demonstrating from different perspectives is ultimately aimed to remove the differences in team vision and differences in the types of objects, and to show the hidden unchanged things behind the ordinary urban appearance and change. More importantly, through these actions, we hope not only to show the potential of Chinese urban studies in realistic situations, to establish effective new ways of conforming practice and cognition, but also to find new areas of architecture. This is what we ultimately want to focus on: to find the logic that is not trapped in the existing architectural disciplines about architecture, space, meaning, history, philosophy, speculation, etc., but guide to new free cognition and ways of understanding.
